VAT Information for Buyers

The Auctioneer's Margin Scheme

The Auctioneer's Margin Scheme allows P F Windibank to sell items without VAT on the hammer price. However, as a consequence, the amount added by P F Windibank to the buyer's premium for VAT is not recoverable by any business buyer. Purchasing under the margin scheme is most beneficial to private EU buyers and EU dealers wishing to sell their purchases under the dealers margin scheme.

VAT on buyer's premium for items sold under the margin scheme

Under a margin scheme an amount equivalent to VAT at 17.5% is added to the buyer's premium. This amount cannot be refunded by P F Windibank or recovered by a buyer in their EU VAT return. The VAT element will not be shown separately on the buyer's invoice.

VAT on Daggered Items

A Plus sign ie:- (+) beside the lot number in the catalogue indicates that VAT at 17.5% is payable by the buyer on the hammer price and buyer's premium.
