Gold & Diamonds
Added Friday 13th March 2020 at 12:52
We had a vigorous auction on 7 March, perhaps a few less people in the saleroom but plenty of absentee bids and reserved phone lines more than made up for it. (More on this later.)

The star of the show was a breath-taking, jaw-dropping etc Art Deco diamond brooch selling for a hammer price of 2650 (plus 20% buyer premium and VAT on that). This double-clip brooch was set with 40 emerald cut diamonds and surrounded and interspersed with 164 other diamonds.

Also setting buyers` hearts racing was a platinum early 20th century drop square scallop-shaped diamond pendant. There was a 0.60 ct center diamond surround by 111 diamonds all in the original leather case. The hammer came down at 1750 (plus 20% buyer premium and VAT on the premium).

Other top sellers were gold bangles, bracelets, and watches.

There were some fun non-jewellery items e.g. a pair of bronzed garden urns with cupids, scrolls, and sweeping bases sold for 660 (plus the usual) and a couple of Bakelite radios.

We are currently reviewing government guidelines about the swiftly changing coronovirus outbreak. We will be letting all our clients know soon if we will be changing any procedures for the next few auctions.
